Are there any free online CNA programs around San Jose?
I’ve found a couple online CNA courses, but in order to pass I need to attend the clinicals in-person. I’m struggling to find programs near San Jose/Santa Clara that are low-cost or free. Additionally, I’m a high school student who starts classes mid-August, so I need to make sure my school schedule doesn’t interfere with the online schedule.

A few things to consider much of the work of a CNA and HHA is physical in nature where you are working hands on caring for people therefore, while some of the course work (which I'm not terribly familiar with) might lend itself to some distance/online learning much of the actual learning is hands on whether its doing a clinical observation or a lab/demonstration based program.
As you are a high school student you might want to see if your school system offers vocational programs where you can do some of your coursework for your HS diploma and also get training for a vocation. I know many years ago at least the school system where I went to high school they offered vocational courses one of which was training that would allow you to sit for the LPN exam.
I would look at training schools locally to see if they offer any tuition assistance and/or partial scholarships for training. Wishing you the best.

Hi, Christy !
Well, as long as you are 16 or older you can look into starting the training and obtaining work. You will have to obtain a Work Permit from your school if you are under age 18.
If you are already 16, the way this works is that in San Jose and in Santa Clara there aren't any free CNA trainings, but CAL ACE Nursing Academy offers training for $200.00 which is pretty low cost. This training is for seven weeks. The Evista Vocational College provides a Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide course but call them to see how much it costs. At Evista, you'd need 180 hours of instruction, including 60 hours of lecture and 100 hours of clinical for the nurse assistant component, followed by 20 hours of lecture and 20 hours of clinical for the home health aide training. Evista offers financial assistance and scholarships.
I do not recommend doing a CNA or Home Health Aid program training online. This is a very heavy people oriented hands on career and best done on site, in person where you can interact with people for the training as well as the clinicals. Consider taking the entire training in person. You'll be caring for patients that are very different from yourself so the more awareness you have of disabilities, various cultures and the elderly, the better.
Call the training places and see if this training will conflict with your school schedule. I know that most times in the region where I live the training is held in the daytime when high school is usually in session. Please reconsider not doing the hybrid program. Many times, people think that Certified Nursing Assistance is one of those easy peasy jobs that anyone can do - it's not. It is a career in which one must have a sincere love for people, empathy, understanding of a variety of people and a gentle approach. If you've never done this type of work before, I urge you to do the entire thing in person, on site, not just the clinicals on site. You also will need to have above average communication skills which you will not hone by doing the training online. It's your choice, but I would aim for the best quality training with the fullest experience. I have known many people who have complained of their home health aids or the CNA in a nursing home, so strive to be one of the excellent ones. Also, if you get a job in a nursing home, it is very, very stressful so be prepared for that.
Not only may the training conflict with your high school schedule but the work might, too. If you start working as a CNA or Home Health Aid, they may need you for the hours they need you, not just when you're available. Your best bet is to just call the training places to learn the details.
I hope this helps a bit and I wish you all the best !
