Hello Lucius,
It is cool that you want to own your business and there is not a set amount of time that is required in order to have your own company. I would you suggest think about ideas for things that are needed but not much business are in those areas. Being an entrepreneur, will require you to come up with ideas that many people could never think about. Setting up a plan for your business will be very important in order to stay focused and create stability for a future plan of what you want to accomplish. You seem interested in doing something with business and wish you the best when it comes to your future endeavors. Best of luck to you!

Depends on how determined you are. They're are ways to start at your age in creating a revenue stream for yourself including, mowing lawns, providing a service, creating and or selling a product that is beneficial to others, with your parents help etc. Its never too soon to be a innovator, creator and think outside of the box! That should start and begin for you, now. By the time you're a young adult you will have cultivated it.

Thank you for your question. I am glad to know that you would like to become an entrepreneur. It's might be too early to be an entrepreneur now but you can start planning now.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Think about the industry you have interest or strength.
2. Do some analysis on the industry, eg entry criteria, competition status, any alternative / substitute, etc.
3. Take some relevant courses and management courses
4. Work in the industry some time to understand the business model
5. Start the business online if possible
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Hello, Lucius !
Since you do not know about Business yet and you do not know the product or service you want to have, no one can tell you how long it will take for you to have your own business. You have to give more detail and even then, no one is going to be able to map out a timeline and give you the answer about when you will have your own business. It's just something you will have to take steps for and be comfortable with the journey.
Hopefully, you are taking Business classes now in 10th grade. I would recommend that you take as many Business classes in 11th and 12th grade also. The more business classes you take in High School, you may increase your chances of being inspired about a product or service that you'd like to do. That needs to be established before you can think about "starting a business" because all types of businesses are started differently with some similar requirements.
Join one of your high school's business extracurriculars. Also visit the Library and borrow some books about How To Start A Business (but you may need to know what type of business). There should be lots of videos on You Tube about how to start a business, too, by typing it in the You Tube search. Go to a nearby Chamber of Commerce as there is none in Cambridge, VT as they may have various resources or activities for aspiring business owners.
After High School, something that will greatly help you will be to attend college for a Bachelors Degree in Business. This is where you'll really learn how to start a business if you know by then what product or service you'd like to have.
In general, someone starting a business will need either a home office, a rented space office in the community and a business website (not social media but an established business website). You will need to know the product or service you will offer. You will need to be able to fund your business. The Vermont Economic Development Authority can help you with information about financing your specific business. There are many types of business loans they can tell you about for businesses in specific categories and types of businesses. You will also need a budget for advertising and you will need to inter-mingle at business related conferences, expos and job fairs as you can probably pick up information and maybe make some business contacts that way.
I hope that this helps and that you start to actively explore your thoughts of having your own business. I wish you all the best moving forward !

Hi Lucius - it's great that you are already thinking about your future and that you want to start a business.
To be able to start a great business, there are three ways you can try to get an idea of what you want to do:
1. Make a list of everything you like doing, because if you are passionate about it, other people are too. And then try to see different goods or services that can be a business.
2. Start observing what people spend a lot of time and money on, and also make a list. If possible, ask a few people why they buy certain things and not others, as this will also help you understand how customers think.
3. Do research also on businesses that are easy to start, i.e., they don't require a lot of money to start and they also don;t need too much time (because you're still in school and your grades matter).
Once you've done all the above, start crossing out the businesses that don't work out for you or your research shows are too hard to do. I would advise that you have an adult help you do this, ideally someone who manages or owns a business. Hopefully, this should lead you to a top 3 list, and then you can review it again and pick one.
For the one you've selected, use ChatGPT to create small, actionable daily steps that a 10th grader can take to start the specific business. Then, you must have a lot of discipline to complete every little action every day. Business is about consistency. And remember to ask for help from a teacher, parent, mentor or any adult who can help. With time, your little steps will help create a good foundation to start your first business.
A few things to remember:
1. Businesses change. How you start is not how you may end up. So be patient but also see what you can change - always listen to the customer feedback on how you can be better.
2. Not all businesses succeed and that's ok too. The important thing is how fast you can learn.
3. The process of making a list of potential businesses is not something that you do once and is done. Keep a notebook with you and continue to note everything of interest, because once you start spotting business opportunities, you'll start seeing them everywhere.
All the best!
