It’s completely normal to feel worn down when the finish line feels far away. College asks you to invest a lot of effort up front without always giving you immediate proof that it’s paying off. That can make even motivated, capable people question whether it’s worth it. The fact that you’re still showing up, even while struggling, says a lot about your resilience. You don’t need to have everything figured out right now. You only need to keep taking the next small, manageable step in front of you.
It can help to shift the focus from the distant end goal to what this season is quietly building in you. Each class you complete, each tough week you get through, is strengthening skills you’ll use long after graduation, like problem-solving, persistence, and learning how to keep going when things are hard. Focus on your "why." What is your end-goal with school? Why is it important for you to be motivated in school? This should help motivate you to keep trying. If you do not connect with your purpose - then it is easy for motivation to diminish. Another suggestion is to talk with someone whose motivation inspires you and learn from them how they get and stay motivated. Ask yourself, "what will it feel like to be genuinely motivated?" and really connect in with that feeling.

This is a great question- and sometimes it can be challenging to stay focused in school! I would suggest actively taking notes- make it a goal of yours to take notes during each class- this alone will help you stay focused! If you find that you're taking notes on what the teacher is saying, but it's not registering in the moment, that's okay too- you can reflect back on the notes you take to support you. Sometimes topics will be naturally more interesting to you where it's easier to stay engaged, but other topics may present a challenge. That is normal!

Great question! I like to make my tasks smaller so they don't seem too big. This way, I can set little goals and give myself rewards as I go. When a task seems too big, I tend to procrastinate and get stressed, so I've learned to handle it bit by bit and take breaks. This is a very valid question, even for professionals. What I've learned so far on this topic is that finding purpose and meaning is probably my most successful piece of advice. If you do study only to pass, the things you learn might not really make a ton of sense. If you figure out WHY you're learning these things and find a way to understand how this fits into your goals, I am positive you'll find the motivation you need! All the best!

My sons had trouble with motivation in school. First thing is to find out what is causing the lack of motivation. Is it related to a medical condition? Thereafter, I would find an accountability partner. Make a list, vision board, and possibly even tutoring but someone you can talk too that will give you uplifting advice can help. In addition, there are many books that speak on motivation that may help too.

Hi Jasmine - You got this! Start small with what you want to accomplish and work your way up. Can the task take 5 minutes or less? If so, do it right away don't wait! Are you feeling stuck and not interested in a specific topic? Get up, stretch your legs and get some fresh air or call a friend! Are you feeling distracted? Put your phone in a different room to really focused on your thoughts and what is holding you back! People have shared that your phone being on the table, even if it is face down, can be a distraction. What is your goal for the task ahead of you? Write it down on a post-it and look at it as a remind to stay motivated. You have some great advice here already and I hope we are able to help with your motivation!

There are many different ways to stay motivated in school. I know at times it can be very difficult to stay focused or is easy to get distracted because I've personally had those moments. I remember moments where I would procrastinate on assignments and it would lead me to either not doing well on assignments, having to drop classes, or made my life extremely difficult. Being proactive is always the best way to stay motivated with different parts of your life because it drives you to do well. It is important to stay focused on the main point/goal that you want to achieve and it will be paramount in your success. I created a list for you think about, look over and hopefully this helps!
