Hi Shayna,

Here are several ideas for you to consider. While the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) doesn't have a dedicated textile conservation program, it does have an excellent fibers and materials study program and textile collection, and you might start there. The Metropolitan Museum of Art also has a world-renowned costume collection, so you might check out their website to see if they have educational resources.

You might consider reaching out to the Textile Specialty Group of the American Institute for Conservation: https://www.culturalheritage.org/groups/textile-group

Or maybe you could schedule an informational interview closer to home, at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Fogg at Harvard, or the Gardner, for example.

There are lots of interesting videos on various aspects of conservation on YouTube; you might search there for some resources too.

Good luck with your studies. From what I know, textile conservation and paper conservation are two of the more challenging and exciting museum fields to get involved in.

Kim's anser is very thoughtful and comprehensive. And Boston is a college town as it were. I know nothing about your interest, but the area you live in? Do a search, not that difficult really. And the counselors at your current school? Sorry, but I cannot offer more.
