Is my app idea worth it/needed?
I am considering building an "all-in-one life app" that has multiple different features and is basically a collection of different apps combined into one, and it's very collaborative, interactive, and connects with different apps. Kind of like Notion. I was wondering if this kind of app is really needed or original. Be honest.

Hello Norbert
I'll be honest, I don't think the app as you described it would be useful BUT ....
1) Most phones all you to edit/group your apps together so what you need is a unique concept that would make one want to use your app as a one-stop shop. For example, it might be apps that are gender based, there are lots of apps for women, maybe a male perspective? Apps for an age group? Maybe its everything one needs to if you like nature, trails so the clothing, apps for finding locations etc. So, dig further and find that unique niche.
2) You said other features, maybe there is a unique concept there. I know someone who actually makes money on some key information that Disney Park users need.
3) Are you looking to make money? This may or may not work but it will be excellent experience in the future for future apps. What worked? What didn't work. People who create apps, fail a lot. The idea is to gain experience, and you will find that one unique thing that works.
4) As a student, the experience you gain would be amazing, both for college applications, future internships and job interviews etc. When I interviewed interns, many of them had created apps like you, that showed initiative, confidence, experience and definitely made them more likely to get the job.
Good Luck! Love your initiative.

When we design products, before we even start conjuring ideas, we do lots of research and competitive analysis. Stefan already mentioned that.
Then we start exploring ideas (all ideas that come to mind even if they seem too "out-of-the-box") that solves user problems we find during research.
Once you have all ideas out there, get it down to a couple of solid solutions.
Build a mock (we use a tool called Figma that helps bring our ideas to life.)
Test it. There's sites like UserTesting and others like it that allow you to put your idea in front of users who will give you feedback on the app. Make sure your questions are broad and non-leading (meaning don't ask questions that will give the user a bias or lean them towards a certain way.)
Then, you process all the feedback you get, good and bad and iterate. Hope this helps!

Instead of looking for approval from others, focus on your journey. Many people here might not have experience with app development. Take my son, for example—he created an app, tested it with family and friends, and used their feedback to launch it. Although he didn't make money at first, after three years, he's now seeing success. Remember, creating and launching an app is just the start. You'll also need funds to promote it on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Keep pushing forward!

To make your app truly essential, it should provide something unique or better than what's currently available. Consider focusing on a specific niche or improving a key feature:
Better Core Experience: Think about offering a simpler, more attractive, or faster user experience than apps like Notion or ClickUp. For instance, Nuclino focuses on speed and ease of use.
Exceptional Integration: Can your app connect with other apps in a way that feels seamless, offering deep, two-way syncing that makes them feel like part of your app?
Niche Focus: Instead of being an "all-in-one life app," could it be an "all-in-one app for freelance artists," "remote educators," or "family coordination"? Targeting a specific group can make your app indispensable to them.
Advanced Automation or AI: Could your app's automation be more user-friendly and powerful, or could its AI excel at specific tasks like summarizing or drafting?

I wouldn't focus on whether it's "needed" or "original". The experience of designing, building, testing, and iterating will be so valuable it's worth it in itself. It's easy to fall into the trap of never starting or doing because you're not sure if it will work in the end. Avoid this trap. Up front analysis and idea development is a very valuable part of the process, but don't' get stuck there. Most "success stories" come from lots of prior attempts that didn't produce "success".

This is an interesting idea. The most important step is to discuss it with potential users like other students and your family. If they say they will use it then it may be a good idea. You will also learn important features and changes during this process, which is very important.
Then try your first version on these and other potential users. Make modifications and repeat this process until you think you have something ready for release to a wider audience. Is one of your objectives to make money from this app? How will you do that? Ask potential users if and how much they will pay.
Building an app will be a lot of work. Can you do this while you are in school and/or working? If you are still in school, that is more important than building an app so don't make the app your first priority.

Great idea! Consider surveying a diverse group of people, aged 14 to 50, to see how your vision connects with different users. Ensuring it's easy to use is key. Plus, this will really enhance your resume. Best of luck!

I think your app idea is really interesting and has a lot of potential. Many people today are tired of using too many different apps for different things, so an “all-in-one life app” can feel very helpful and convenient. The idea of having collaboration, interaction, and connection with other apps also makes it feel modern and practical. It shows you are thinking about real user needs.
Of course, apps like Notion or other productivity tools already exist, but that doesn’t mean your idea is not needed. There is still a big space for improvement and new approaches. If you bring something unique — maybe a more friendly interface, more automation, or a more personal feeling — then it can become original and stand out. Many successful apps were not “first,” but they became popular because they solved problems in a better or simpler way.
So yes, I think your idea is definitely worth exploring. It’s needed because people want more organization and less chaos, and if you design it with clear purpose and good user experience, it can become something special. Keep going and don’t be afraid to experiment — you might create something really valuable!

Hello Norbert, Congratulations on your app idea. I would say go for it. Allow your app to stand out. You are your greatest competitor. Always remember that the right people will ask: "What makes your app different from the rest?" and that's where you let the world or your target audience see what you have to offer those in need. Thank you for sharing your idea.

Hi Norbert,
The concept is excellent and I believe it has strong potential. My suggestion would be to begin with a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) instead of building the full solution upfront. After developing the MVP, share it with a few close friends and family to get genuine feedback, refine it as needed, and then move toward scaling it into a full-fledged application.

"I was wondering if this kind of app is really needed or original."
I think you already know the answer: "Kind of like Notion."
I suggest using a tool such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_model_canvas and check on which area your business has a competitive advantage relative to other apps on the market.
If you want to have succes with the new app you need to address customer needs that are not already met by other apps.
