Susan’s Answer

To network effectively, follow these steps:

Before the event:
1. Look up details about the event and who will be there.
2. Create a short personal pitch to introduce yourself.
3. Set clear goals for what you want from networking.
4. Update and be ready to share your online profiles, like LinkedIn.

During the event:
1. Be friendly and approachable.
2. Ask questions and listen carefully.
3. Offer help or value to others before asking for anything.
4. Aim to build real, lasting connections.
5. Stay focused and let conversations happen naturally.

Jerome’s Answer

Networking has played a huge part in my success as a professional. Getting to know others in building out your network will have a huge positive impact.

You can start simple by attending events held by the campus, especially those that are offered by the college you are going to. Simply showing up and being visible a couple times will inevitably lead to familiarity and conversations.

Try to attend networking events at places where there are activities. Those can be less awkward in my opinion. I struggle with the events where it’s just you in a room with other people.

Tim’s Answer

Hi Dharla,

Every time you're around people, it's a chance to network. Here are two tips for you.

First, join a club or group related to a hobby you enjoy, especially if it's nearby. This makes it easier to talk to others since you'll share common interests. For example, I've met many people through a local running club.

Second, choose an industry you're interested in or want to work in, and find an organization in that field. Attend their events or join their online discussions to connect with others. If you're into business, check out your local chamber of commerce. They often have networking opportunities.

I hope this helps you with networking. Good luck!
Tim
