What was your journey like to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) ?

Did you have perfect grades in nursing school? Did you work somewhere specific that helped you? What would you recommend I do to help me get into CRNA school and ace the interview?

Thank you for your responses in advance :)

The journey to becoming a CRNA can feel long and unattainable but if you focus on making small steps you will get there!

I worked for several years as a floor nurse before getting a job on a cardiovascular ICU unit. Any ICU experience is acceptable for most school applications but I highly recommend doing cardiac as it gives you such a good understanding of the intricate and complementary workings of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

However, having the ICU experience is only one component of preparation for a career as a CRNA. Grades are really important in your undergraduate education. CRNA school is highly competitive and you need excellent grades to even be a candidate. Beyond grades, showing your motivation to learn can give you can edge over others—getting certified in critical care or other areas helps to make you stand apart.

Additionally, I shadowed several CRNAs in both metropolitan and rural facilities so I had a well rounded understanding of the variable work environments.

Lastly, any and all mission work is a great way to show your desire to help others.

Best of luck to you!
Heidi
