How do I balance my school-friend life?
I am currently a 10th grader in high school. I'm taking college classes this year and plan on taking more next year. How do I manage to keep up with my classes but still find time for friends and family?

Feeling overwhelmed is normal when juggling high school and college classes. It's great that you're thinking about balance because it shows you care about your future and loved ones.
To manage this, try planning your week to include both work and time with friends and family. Simple activities like a walk with a friend, a family meal, or a quick call can help you feel connected without extra stress. Remember, it's okay to focus on school sometimes and enjoy social moments at other times. Balance is about making room for what matters most, not doing everything perfectly.
Be honest about your limits to avoid burnout. If a week feels too hectic, it's fine to cut back, seek help, or replace a social event with rest. Taking care of your social and emotional needs will give you more energy for school success. You can have both strong relationships and academic achievements.

Hi Caitlyn,
Balancing school and your personal life really comes down to knowing what to prioritize and being intentional about how you use your time and energy. There will be times when you have to sacrifice leisure time to stay on top of your assignments, but if you plan and prioritize what matters most, I think you’ll achieve a great balance between your academic and personal life. My advice is to give yourself grace, stay organized, and remember it is okay if everything is not perfect all the time.

My colleagues are right! You need to focus on what matters most. Think about what helps you do your best in school. Your family and friends will understand and support you. Take a moment to figure out what comes first. Making a checklist or schedule can show you how you use your time. Good luck!

The balance between both worlds is the perfect fit! Will have moments were you will need to sacrifice on to the other, and its ok! Just need to always pay attention if its a correct balance, one is crucial for your development as a "hard skill", but the other is also very important for your career, that is how can connect with people and can be a "soft skill". Both are very important not just for your carreer but for your life!

Hi there,
That's a great question! It's really important to keep a balance because it stays with you longer than you might think. I'm 30 now and still keep in touch with my school friends. It's not always about how much time you spend but about wanting to make it happen.
Sometimes you'll want to meet up, but your friends might not be available. Don't rush it. Take your time and meet whoever you can, even if it's just one person or a small group.
Building this habit takes time, and you'll see it grow from both sides. As you finish college, start a job, and maybe start a family, you'll have lots of chances to skip and set up priorities but always keep that little room and balance.
Remember, school friends are friends for life.

Hi Caitlyn! The honest truth is that balance isn't about splitting your time perfectly 50/50, it's more about being intentional with the time you have. What helped me throughout my own journey was learning to prioritize and plan my weeks in advance. I'd block out dedicated study time, but I'd also make sure to schedule hangouts, family dinners, or even just downtime because if it's not on the calendar it tends to get pushed aside. A few practical tips: try not to procrastinate on big assignments because that's what really eats into your personal time, learn to say no to things that don't truly matter to you, and don't feel guilty for taking breaks because your brain actually needs them to perform well. Also, some of the best memories come from blending worlds, like studying with friends or doing homework at a coffee shop with family nearby. You don't have to sacrifice one for the other. There will be weeks where school demands more and weeks where you can be more social, and that's perfectly normal. The key is giving yourself grace and remembering that you're doing something really impressive by taking on college-level work this early. Keep it up, stay organized, and don't forget to have fun along the way!

Thank you for your question. Firstly, find a time management tool to help, e.g. MS Outlook, Google Calendar, your phone calendar, etc.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Put down the time you need to attend classes
2. Assign some time every day on your assignment & projects. Review the material covered in the class of the day. If you have any question, ask the teacher on next school day.
3. Make sure you have enough time to sleep and do some exercise
4. You can allocate some time for your leisure and friend & family gatherings on weekend
5. You may assign some more time early before your assessments
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
