As an incoming college freshman, what are the most important connections that I should make, both in and out of the class to help me towards getting involved ?
Specifically for STEM majors, and just clubs

Hi Linda! In class, try to connect well with your professors. They often have research projects you might join later and can give you great advice about the industry. Outside of class, join clubs related to your major. You'll meet people who share your interests, and you might even take on a leadership role someday. This will give you a strong support network while you study.

I just replied to another student just starting at university.
Your situation is not exactly the same, but some of what I wrote to her would work for you:
First: most universities will have an orientation. It would probably be a good idea to take part in all it has to offer. Think about clubs that interest you. In many cases, it is a good way to meet new friends that have similar interests to your own and hopefully give you new things to think about and take up leisure time.
And then there is the dorm. Assuming you will be living in one. Another environment to share thoughts with others.
And then classes. Hopefully they will be challenging, giving you additional opportunities to interact and fret with others over the challenges.
University life can be a whirl of activity, and so take part and expand your life.
Get everything you can get out of this marvelous opportunity. And grow into yourself.
One further thought: there is one famous university where the students have a "saying", which is "Here you can do three things: study, party, and sleep,,, pick any two." Hopefully there will be more to get out of your university life.
