What would be your best advice for a rising senior determined to become a pediatrician Do you recommend going the straight route or waiting, then going into medical school?#Spring26?
I am a rising high school senior. I attend a technical school, trying to gain experience for a career in health. I am interested in becoming a pediatrician.

Great question.
As a rising senior,I think once you complete your senior grade and meet the requirements, you can get voluntary attachments in a hospital to have closeness to health care system which will not only boost your passion to health and more so children care, thereafter you can proceed with with undergraduate degree in science before proceeding to persu medical degree MD as you also plan to specialise as a pedestrian

I think you can get into medical school either way. I think life experience will help you gain confidence, experience etc. However, pediatrics is not a very competitive field for medical students so if you are working in the tech field to get into pediatrics, I don't think it's as important. If you are doing it to better your chances into medical school, that's fine.
I just want you to realize that becoming a doctor is not easy. It's a long road. It's not an easy job. I was at a women's physician dinner yesterday and someone discussing a pediatrician who was seeing 35-40 patients a day. I believe most doctors did not realize the work required. I suggest you work in the medical field (I know it won't be easy) but even work free as a medical scribe. You gain the experience, you learn the language, and you see what doctors do (which is not what you expect). This will help you while you are in medical school. Good luck!
