What are some study and time management tips for someone planning on majoring in architecture or interior design?

I know that they can be demanding majors, with students often feeling that they don't have enough time, so I want to make sure I can work hard and have good time management skills as well. Thank you!

Drew’s Answer

While I don't have any experience in either major, I do have experience managing time in order to study. Most importantly - block. the. time. Set time aside to work specifically on the work you have ahead of you. Have the time blocked in your day and commit to working during that time every time it is scheduled. The discipline of treating your study like practicing an instrument or other craft is something you will benefit from greatly - especially if you start the habit early.

Henry’s Answer

Hi Angely,
Here's a tip I wish I had known in college about time management: focus on the main question. I remember spending many nights overthinking and worrying about the best choice. The key is to find the simplest answer to the design prompt. If the prompt is about housing, concentrate on the units. If it's about museums, think about how people move through the space. Things like tectonics and parametric design only make sense if you start with a straightforward answer. Stay focused, and you'll do great!
