How do I know my chosen college major will actually get me where I want to be in my career path What if I change my mind? Is there a fallback? ?

I've been really anxious about this lately. I feel like I'm going to force myself into a position I won't be happy with as an adult. I'm currently majoring in theatre and creative writing-- and I love those subjects, I've been an actor all my life and telling stories is my favorite thing to do, plus I'm genuinely good at both... But I'm not 100% sure I actually want either of those as a career path. Or, at least, I'm worried I'll change my mind somewhere down the line. It feels intimidating to decide on the trajectory for my whole life at nineteen. #spring26

You can always change your mind and go back to school. It has more often than you think. In the other hand you may want to broaden your prospects but adding journalism or technical writing to your studies. Good luck.

It's fine to be nervous and concerned, these are challenging times and those are challenging careers, but the reality is that all careers are challenging and the idea that you have to plan your entire trajectory at 19 is putting too much pressure on yourself. You have the opportunity to explore your options and discover things along the way. It's important to take advantage of that. I would say try to explore the other things that you are potentially interested in and see if you connect with them meaningfully and also keep your eyes and ears open for other opportunities. Uncertainty is real and fine to feel, but you can embrace that and take advantage of it. Worrying about a future you don't have control over is a waste of your youthful energy. Enjoy your youth and the range of choices in front of you. Honestly, if I could go back in time and tell my 19 year old self one thing, I'd say: Read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, in my opinion, it's the closest thing to a road map for life.

There is never a fallback. I changed my Major 3 times before I found my passion. The objective is to graduate and get that degree. Also though you get a degree you may still wind up doing something totally different. For example, I watched a great movie about a man who graduated with a Law degree but ended up doing a film about the greatest Ski trip ever. My daughter graduated with a communication degree but ended up in Tech AI trainer. Whatever you choose to make sure you have joy and satisfaction.
