Hi, William, and congratulations on completing high school!
I think you will do fine. As you know, Northeastern University's co-op allows students to gain experience and connection in their chosen fields while undergraduates. There is a banking and insurance track in the Northeastern business school and long-time Finance Club (second link below).
The first link below is a Northeastern grad explaining how he created his Wall Street trajectory. I bet there are many alumni like him able to provide advice and maybe opportunities. The third link below shows hiring statistics and many investment banks are on the list.
Wishing you good luck!

Hi William,

Northeastern is a great place to begin if you're interested in investment banking or eventually moving into private equity. The university's strong co-op program lets you gain real work experience while still in school, which is valuable since employers prefer candidates with hands-on experience.

If you're aiming for private equity, the typical path is to start in investment banking and then transition to private equity. To reach this goal, focus on getting into top finance opportunities. Join finance clubs, connect with professionals, and sharpen your skills in areas like Excel, valuation, and interview techniques. These efforts can make a big difference.

In my view, if you maintain a high GPA, get involved in clubs early, prepare for technical interviews, and network smartly, you can definitely enter investment banking and later move into private equity. It's okay if you're still figuring things out; many students start by exploring. The key is to keep learning, meeting people, and trying new things.

Congrats on your acceptance William! Northeastern is a phenomenal school to be at. It's co-op emphasis will give you a lot of pre-professional experience that will allow you to stand out from peers applying from other institutions. The path you're carving out to start in IB then move to PE is absolutely doable, regardless of where you are attending school. If you also find that you are not hitting the opportunities that you want in IB while at Northeastern, there is always the option of considering to pursue an MBA from a school that is especially big on finance trajectories, and using the opportunity to pivot. Regardless, having these goals in mind is a great thing to start with. You got this!
