How could I ensure that I will get a job in my field when I graduate?
I know a lot of people that have a degree but are having trouble actually finding a job that goes with their degree once they graduate. Many jobs are also being taken over by AI. Any tips would be very helpful!

Networking! Virtual groups on LinkedIn, in-person groups or organizations in your area (AI can help discover those). Join and be a part of the conversations that are happening in those groups, and connect with others in the groups. Being involved in this way can give you insight into trending topics in that industry and provide talking points for interviews to showcase your knowledge about the industry, even without working experience.
Engaging with these groups on LinkedIn will likely change your algorithm, as well. This would shift your feed to show more industry-specific content, and more importantly, potentially show you open roles. The people posting those roles and creating that content are (most of the time) the right people to connect with. If they see you engaging in industry-related conversations, it might help you stand out.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is here to help with repetitive tasks, not to replace people. Think of it as a helpful tool and a great opportunity. By learning AI alongside your main degree, you can build strong skills in both areas. This combination gives you an edge over those who only focus on their major. To boost your job prospects, strengthen your knowledge in your field and gain real-world experience through projects, internships, or volunteering. It's important to adapt and keep learning as technology changes. Focus on improving your problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and ability to work with AI systems, as these are becoming vital in many jobs. Remember, human qualities like judgment, feedback, emotional intelligence, and decision-making are unique strengths that are difficult to replace.

Have an open mind set! It might surprise you but you can find job opportunities in companies that at first instance look away from your interests or skills. For example, I would never think of working for a tech company being a journalist with a masters degree in communications, and here I am, doing media relations for HP. So explore in places you would never think of.

I recently discovered a helpful Instagram account that offers tips on building your resume and applying for remote jobs.
When applying for a job, tailor your resume to include keywords from the job ad. Highlight your achievements with specific numbers or percentages. It's better to submit your CV in Word format rather than PDF, as automated systems struggle to read PDFs.
For interviews:
- Answer questions directly.
- Keep your responses concise and limit your questions.
- Stay flexible, open-minded, and positive.
- Dress appropriately.
- Be prepared for video calls.
- Avoid speaking negatively about others.
Learn to use AI to improve your work efficiency.
Act like the person in the role you want.
Network effectively.
Embrace opportunities and be open to change.

Suggest you try to be patient, yet persistent in looking for and following up on potential jobs. Use your family, friends, neighbors and relatives to network and find out where jobs are available or might be in the near future.
Keep the faith and enjoy this day -- you probably have a long life ahead of you!
With every good wish and many blessings,
Karen
