Hi Khyati-

For pharmacy students a great way to network is to let your office of student affairs and professors know that your interested in hospital pharmacy for example. They can help you using their network of professionals to see if there are any open internships. If it is more retail based, then most businesses list their needs like open jobs but it never hurts to stop at the pharmacy counter and introduce yourself with a resume in hand in case the PIC is not available. In pharmacy, who you know is just as important as what you know.

Good luck!!

Mouna’s Answer

Hey khyati,

It is always a good idea to apply for internships while attending university. They are as much valuable as GPA and exam results. Especially that now most employees look for real world experience when hiring. I will start with job search website like indeed, monster dice , etc.

Also, LinkedIn is a good portable to network with people who already work in your field. Additionally, recruiters are always posting about jobs and internships opening. There is also so many internships abroad. Check worktheworld.com they have opportunities in Latin America,Asia and Africa

Amy’s Answer

I am the CEO and founder of VolunteerCrowd, a website I launched for students of all ages to find volunteer opportunities. I also happen to have a son who is studying to become a PA. First, if you go to VolunteerCrowd, add your zip code and choose the cause 'health' you can find projects and organizations in your area with pre-med volunteer opportunities. If you see an organization with no active project, just select 'SEND ME FUTURE PROJECT ALERTS'. We'll find one for you.

Second, my son got his EMT. This allowed him to do both volunteer work and paid work as a doctor's scribe. I think the EMT certificate opened a lot of doors. It's a semester long course at a community college, along with a certification test.

Amy recommends the following next steps:

Got to VolunteerCrowd.com, add your city and chose 'health' as a cause.
