Rachel’s Answer

Hi Danna,

Just one quick addition to the above comments. Although there are exceptions to the rule, orthopedic surgeons starting out in academia typically make less than those in private practice. However, academic surgeons have other benefits such as a guaranteed salary, the ability to teach residents, and the opportunity to perform research.

Hi Danna:

Based on my research here's a breakdown of the salary range. Please keep in mind that salary ranges can vary widely depending on many important factors, including education, certifications, additional skills, and the number of years you have spent in your profession.

10% = $285,943
25% = $380,020
50% = $483,350
75% = $625,340
90% = $754,614
