IT is a very broad field. I would say the fastest way would be to go get your associates from a community college and then look for entry level IT jobs ( such as helpdesk support, database administration, or website design). I say community college because they often have partnerships with industry partners that will be looking for people with that background.

However I would say don't just wait until you have a degree - look around your area to see if any businesses are hiring in a similar field (electronics sales/small businesses looking for help with their IT) - you can work part time while working on your career. In the early years of your career you should try to get as much exposure to as many different technologies as you can.

As previous responders have said, it depends on where in IT you want to go and how far in the career ladder you want to reach. I am an academic advisor for a college of computing. Among our IT students pursuing bachelor's degrees, we have many working professionals, who started in the IT field without a degree, just with some professional certifications (such as Cisco, etc), and are seeing a need to get a bachelor's degree in order to advance in their career or change employers. We also have a fair number of students who have an associate's degree and are finding it hard to get the jobs they want, so they are coming back to get their bachelor's.

If you are now in high school and have some coding experience, I would encourage you to look for part-time jobs in the field as you are still in school. I agree that you could continue your education at a local community college if your goal is to minimize cost and accelerate your entry to the full-time work force. Again, I'd take advantage of all opportunities to learn coding skills, both in school and online.

Computer Science Engineer or any other career in this field can be two to four years college education.  It all depends what exactly you want to do in the IT world.
