You are going to need to concentrate on physics and math during your school years then transition to a mechanical engineering program during college.

For Mechanical Engineering, your high school work should emphasize mathematics and physics. Take the advanced version of these courses, if your high school offers such. A calculus course in your senior year would look good on your college applications.

You need to focus on courses such as Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Engineering graphics. In the meanwhile, you must equip yourself with tools such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Matlab, CATIA etc.
