Jared’s Answer

Being a Patient Care Technician, also called a CNA (Certified Nurses Aid) would be an excellent job to have. You get used to dealing with patients and talking to them and their family and learn what it is REALLY like working in a hospital and you will also learn if it is truly for you. That is the absolute BEST job I can think of because it really showed me a lot and really really prepares you for nursing school.

Thank you comment icon Hi Jared thank you for your response! Now can I ask you another question... can I be a Patient Care Technician if I just beginning college as an undergraduate student? Alexis
Thank you comment icon Yes you can, unless your state requires you to be licensed, then you would need to take the proper courses that can be taken at a career center or anything like that. As long as you can drive, you can be one. It all depends on the hospital need and expectation (I.e. Experience and things like that) if they will hire you Jared Buescher

Lisa’s Answer

There are part-time jobs in a variety of places you might consider. Understand your schedule availability and network/look for postings in your neighborhood. Be honest with yourself about the number of hours you realistically can spend working versus school/studying, with school as the priority. You might explore openings with a local health care facility - where you could work in a variety of PT positions. I have a friend who worked in the hospital dietary unit, delivery meals to the patients during her 4 yrs in school pursuing her bachelors and RN. This gave her an opportunity to interact with patients, and the hospital provide an employee benefit to assist with her tuition. What ever you decide, make sure to keep school at the top priority. I wish you the best.
