[closed] How do you set up an informational interview with someone who inspires you?

Hello,

I am a current senior business buff in college with an interest in administration and a major in management. I inspire to be simliar to managers in the professional working field who are successful and know what they are doing. For those of us who want to set-up informational interviews with those for the first time, what do we do? Are there certain techniques and questions that can help make the process smoother and efficient? How can we do this without invading personal privacy rules and offending someone?

Thank you for your input,

Hi Aimee,

This is a very interesting question! I have tried several times to reach out to people I really admired in thep asr, sometimes it workedm sometimes it didn't but here are some quick tips that made a difference:
- Be brief: smart people always have very little time, make sure your intro is short but strong
- Be specific: tell the person why you admire him, why he id special to you, give an example and show that you are interested
- Sell yourself: introduce yourself briefly and try to explain why why your worth responding to
- Raise the person's curiosity: maybe quote an article he wrote and question one sentence, or have something you know will spark his interest
- Finish with a follow-up: always try to be proactive and offer to meet for a coffee or set up a phone call, something to make sure the conversation keeps going

I also did some research and found this article that you might find helpful: What to say when you meet someone you admire

Hope that'll help!

Best,
Julien
