What is the best major to have if you plan on a career on wall street?

I am asking this question because I am an incoming freshman in college and plan to major in economics. I'm curious to see what other successful college students have studied specifically to help prepare them for their future careers in finance. #college-major #finance #college-bound #first-job #corporate-finance

Economics is certainly a relevant and common major for Wall Street. If your school offers it (I believe liberal arts colleges do not), Finance is also relevant. I was a Finance major. With that said, Wall St firms tend to hire really smart kids from a wide range of backgrounds who show interest in the industry, but Finance and Economics will provide the most relevant coursework for the type of work you do on Wall St.

I'm pretty certain Wall Street hires BBA's with a Finance, or Investing degree and MBA's degrees. There are also license you can obtain similar to CPA but for investing.

Finance, Econ, even math are good majors to have in order to work on Wall Street. That being said, people often don't end up working in their area of study.

Finance, Economics, and mathmatics are definitely degrees routinely seen on WS. It depends more specifically what you want to do on WS. Do you want to be an analyst, run a portfolio, investment bank work, etc. A lot of WS firms have very good intern programs - I would reach out to their intern program support staff and see what specific advice they give, as each firm may vary in what type of educational backgrounds they prefer in their candidates.

Good Luck!
