Industrial Design and Environmental Science, can I blend them in my studies and make it a career?

I have just recently started to think about college because I'm in my junior year of high school right now, and i have really taken an interest in environmental science. And what I really hope is that once I get out of college I can make a career out of what I have learned and I am not super science savvy so I wouldn't go into a strictly science field. But what i would love is to incorporate something like industrial design into environmental science, because thinking for future career niches, I'm positive we will be needing things to fix our current ecological crisis! I have a lot of leeway as to what career path I want to follow but this for right now seems like the most viable option. Both of these majors could definitely swapped out for something better, but I think anything around this theme of environmental aid and design is something I would love!

So would it be possible to even make a career out of these two blended together? And what colleges would offer both of these unique majors?

Anything helps! Thank you so much! #college #engineering #science #college-major #design #environmental #industrial

Luis "Lou"’s Answer

They are really different fields. I don't think you would do justice to either of them by combining them.
I.D. is more art than science, and environmental science is more about helping nature do it's thing, than art.
But maybe you are the one that can combine them.

Thank you comment icon You are welcome! Best of luck! Start talking to appropriate people and doing networking as soon as you can. You will be amazed at how much you can learn and what helpful relationships that you can develop. Always seek people that have a common element such as an interest in a certain field, participation in related programs and schools and organizations, and people in your own community who might be involved in this very important career area! Also, talk to the head of alumni relations at your high school to see if he/she knows of any graduates from your school working in this area where you live. Please keep me informed. Ken Simmons
