Check with your local/state regulation and see what type of training you must have to qualify to work as one.
in California, one must go to beauty schools or colleges for the field. after complete some hundreds of hours of training, he/she must pass a test organized by the state.
After passing the test, one must apply for the license and can start working.

Hi Snazzy,

I believe you have to take a state-approved cosmetology or esthetics program and pass an exam in the state that you would like to work . Once you pass the exam, you will receive a license to practice. Different states require different amount of training hours to take the exam. In CT, I believe you don't need a license to be an esthetician. You may want to see if you can get a job at an esthetic salon as a helper that you don't need a license while you are studying. Hope this helps.

Hi Snazzy,
First of all get qualified to the highest level you can. Be open to continued learning as the beauty business is always evolving. Learn about ingredients and the benefits they can offer your clients different skin types. Skin care is a multi billion dollar economy with lots of different avenues of work.
Offer to work voluntarily in a salon/spa to see if you like it. It can be long days, standing, bending over clients giving treatments.
Once you are trained you start to learn in real life so that means you have to practice a lot. Be open to learning, be patient with clients, be a good listener and hugger (not in covid times) and enjoy making someone feel better about themselves, relaxed, energised etc.
It can be hard work but very rewarding.
