How do I become a Orthopedic Nurse? Like what should I major in?

I want to specialize in providing care as a nurse to patients suffering from musculoskeletal issues.

Hi Kalyssa!

To become an ortho nurse there are quite a few steps:

1. Graduate high school.
2. Obtain a nursing license (a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred in many places but some will accept lower degrees as well).
3. Work in an ortho clinic or obtain more ortho and sports medicine training.
4. For an extra career boost, get an ortho specialty cert - https://www.oncb.org/

However, you may also consider becoming a Physician's Assistant in ortho/sports medicine. They have a greater scope of practice and can perform procedures as well. Or become an orthopedic or sports medicine physician!

No Once you graduated Nursing you can apply anywhere in the field and then specialize in what ever you want to do as long as you want to do it. it is virtually open .
