Eric’s Answer

Dear Anthony, Greetings I would say
Dependability. There are a lot of call-in due to what ever reason. You could be the smartest person in nursing but if your not dependable show up late, or refuse to take an extra shift due to
“Bad weather “. It takes a toll on your supervisor’ s opinion as well as your work mates because they have to carry the extra load.
Second is safety for your patients, do you know what you know with confidence in caring about your patients. There are a billion no right answers because every one has a different opinion. But these two are the most in what I consider important, I hope this helps.

Olalere’s Answer

The main values that nursing looks for in a person while hiring are:

Communication Skills

A nurse must have excellent communication skills, especially when it comes to speaking and listening. Nurses must be problem solvers in terms of speaking and effective communication with patients and families.

Empathy

Especially with the patients who are on palliative care, the patients are mostly in pain. As a nurse, you must be able to provide your patients with comfort and reassurance. A good nurse must be able to recognize the symptoms quickly and have the ability to deal with them efficiently.

Flexibility

A nurse must be flexible with working hours, tasks, and responsibilities.

Attention to Detail

A great nurse must pay attention to details in terms of patients' care and medications, as well as be careful not to skip or make errors in discharging her duties as a nurse.

A nurse must pay attention to patients' charts, as there's nothing to be left to chance in the nursing profession. Simple errors can spell tragedy for one's life. Attention to details can literally be the difference between life and death.

Interpersonal skills

A nurse must demonstrate a good interpersonal relationship with other health care professionals for effective communication about patients' care.
Patients see nurses as friendly faces, and other health care professionals depend on nurses to enable a conducive environment as well as work as a team to achieve a common goal. A great nurse will prioritize and balance the patients' needs with those of the doctor as seamlessly as possible.

Problem-solving skills

A good nurse thinks quickly and responds quickly to any problem that arises or may arise. With all patients and emergencies, nurses always need to be on hand and be able to solve any problem in any difficult situation, whether it be with the family of the patient or a coworker. To be a good problem solver is at the top notch of being a good and great nurse.

Physical Endurance

A great nurse must reserve her energy throughout the shift, wherever she may be—on the ward, in the theater, or in the surgery room—to stay fit and strong. Eating early and staying healthy are very crucial.

Quick Response

A good nurse must be able to attend to emergencies immediately and in any situation that may arise. The nurse must be prepared for the unexpected.

Respect

Nurses respect rules and people. They remain impartial at all times and are mindful of patients' confidentiality. Nurses must respect the different values, beliefs, cultures, and traditions of an individual. Above all, nurses must respect the wishes of the patients at all times.

Mary Beth’s Answer

1. A passion for nursing
2. Compassion and Empathy
3. Integrity and Honesty
4. Dependability
5. Strong communications skills…verbal and written
6. Questioning
7. Advocacy
8. Lifelong learner
9. Self confidence
10. Collaborative worker
11. Skill set necessary for position

Nursing is holistic and no one set of KSA’s (knowledge, skills, abilities) will ever meet every need or situation. Always research each position you apply for, as well as research the organization to be sure it is a good fit for your beliefs and goals in nursing. Don’t simply answer what you think they want to hear! Also, go with our own set of questions for them…every interview ends with “do you have any questions for us?”, every one! Be prepared to impress them, always.
