That question was mine some years ago, and it's a good question to ask yourself. As the author of 11 books, I have some advice to share. Write your first book or two or three. If they sell readily, you can write full-time. If they sell slowly, you need something else to do as well. If they don't sell at all, keep writing anyway. And keep trying. You will enjoy the writing itself, and your writing will improve. Writing is its own passion. Whatever career you choose, keep a pencil and pad always handy.

As a future self published author, yes an author can be a career pathway but in one condition, you need to have some knowledge on how to make a business out of it.
For example, selling or marketing your books if you are pursing in self publishing, but not only book itself, but doing workshops and courses that can teach other writers or authors about the publishing industry and writing industry as well too.
This can bring more mainstream to your audience which can helps you on the long run to make more profit for you and your company as well too.
But if you do want to pursue traditional publishing industry, same thing but the difference is that you have more help along the way than doing it yourself which can causes less money but you might run into issues like deadlines and having to change some certain things on your stories that they might think isn’t going to pop up your story towards the audience, if you don’t mind that, then that’s fine but whatever you choose, the pathway might be different but the outcome will be the same way as day one.

Hi Koumba! It's fantastic to hear that you're reaching out and considering writing a book. While I may not be an author myself, my head is brimming with ideas that I'd love to bring to life someday. It's true that many authors find inspiration in their primary careers, whether it be at a university or in the corporate world. In fact, having a full-time career and writing on the side can provide a unique and valuable perspective in your work.
Writing offers an incredible sense of freedom, allowing you to take control of your time while pursuing a passion. There's nothing quite like chasing after your dreams and fully embracing your creative side. As David mentioned, it's essential to follow your writing interests and see where they lead you on your journey to becoming an accomplished author.
Keep in mind that every writer faces challenges and occasional setbacks, but what truly matters is that you never give up on your dreams. Stay persistent, learn from your experiences, and continue to strive for success. With hard work, dedication, and a little encouragement, you'll be surprised at what you can achieve. Remember, the world is waiting to hear your unique voice and stories, so go for it and let your talent shine!
