Varshini’s Answer

Hello Jenny,

As an interior designer with a year of experience and a master's degree in the field, I am passionate about how interior design can transform the daily experiences of those who interact with it. The range of projects can vary greatly, from large-scale endeavors like airports and sports stadiums to smaller, more intimate spaces like studio apartments and caravans. The incredible potential in every space is what truly inspires me!

I hope this information is useful,
Varshini

Whitney’s Answer

Hi - I am a commercial interior designer in the US with 12 years of experience. I chose to become an interior designer to combine my interests in arts/being creative with a public service job. An interior designers responsibility above all else is to protect the public. I make choices daily that impact the safety of people in spaces. While pursuing my career in college I gained many skill sets that were design-specific, but I also learned general skill sets such as organizational skills, working in a team, how to communicate with others/with a team, and how to manage my time effectively.

Kiara’s Answer

Hello
I choose to become an interior designer at the age of 12. I used to love a show called "Trading Spaces" as a child. (You should check it out). Essentially, children got to re-do over their friend's rooms based off a theme or something they like. I really enjoyed seeing the transformation of spaces and how it made people feel.

I even asked my parents to re-do my childhood bedroom, as my first project at the age of 12. We took down all the walls, put up new dry wall, sanded, I picked the paint, lighting, furniture etc. I feel in love with the process and realized quite early this was for me.

I learned a lot throughout my career, but the most important would be time and project management. Essentially going into interior design, takes you being a bit of a project manager! While there is the pretty , design side there is also the business side of managing peoples expectations of when a project can be completed. Also, you may have to work on multiple projects at one time. You have to learn to manage the work effectively to meet project deadlines.

James Constantine’s Answer

Hi Jenny,

I decided to embark on a journey as an Interior Designer because I've always been deeply passionate about crafting spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional. The idea of transforming a simple room or a whole building into a space that mirrors the personality and caters to the needs of those who will occupy it, truly excites me. Interior design gives me the perfect platform to blend my creativity with problem-solving abilities, ultimately enhancing people's lives through the spaces they live in.

In my journey as an Interior Designer, I've managed to acquire a diverse range of skills that have played a pivotal role in my success. To start with, I've cultivated a sharp eye for detail and aesthetics. This helps me comprehend how different factors like color, texture, and lighting can alter the feel of a space. I've also refined my communication skills, enabling me to understand clients' needs and preferences, while also guiding them through various design concepts and possibilities. Project management skills have been equally important, as I've learned to orchestrate different aspects of a design project, which include budgeting, scheduling, and collaborating with contractors and vendors. Finally, keeping myself abreast of the latest trends and technologies in interior design is a continuous part of my skill enhancement, ensuring I can provide my clients with innovative and up-to-date solutions.

Here are the top 3 authoritative reference publications or domain names I used in answering this question:

- American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)
- Interior Design Magazine
- National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)

Take care and stay blessed,
James.
