Soft skills needed for an automotive engineer is to not be holed into the department where you are in, but to regularly meet engineers in other departments and discuss with them as to how the parts you are in-charge of interacts or packages with their parts. What other supporting departments work on to make your part that you are in- charge of a success. What testing what validation EVT DVT PVT. You need to be a jack of all automotive trades to succeed in Automotive to go higher up positions.
