Will AI replace Architectures in the future?

I'm a high school student, and I'm interested in Architecture, but I heard that this major has no future, that AI will replace it oneday. I'll be doing running start this upcoming school year, and I'm interested in computer science as well, so should I give up on this major and do computer science or not?

Thank you comment icon Hello Bouchra, After reading you, let me tell you that you are so smart and big thinker. Students who aspire to study Architecture are the most intelligent. And, I believe in you, you are so smart, I know that you can do Computer Science. Don't be confused about AI. Go ahead, work hard, think big and improve yourself everyday in that field. You, you are smart and productive, you can create, innovate exceptional things in your community. So, be free and open, you can go on this major, computer science. Have a wonderful academic journey! Hi Bouchra,
As someone who studied architecture (BArch and Masters), worked as an architect, and then got a data science degree and moved into STEM I would recommend you to not go into architecture. AI is nowadays being used to do a lot of the time consuming, repetitive tasks that previously an entry level architect do, so it is already difficult to find an entry level job unless you graduate from very specific architecture schools (like Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, etc.) Once you get in, it is just low pay, long hours, taking constant orders, and doing endless footwork until you become 'lucky' to be promoted by middle aged white males to a decent level where you no longer do footwork but are under constant stress ad pressure.
On the other hand there is so much future in Computer Science. Coding alone is a superpower and is the future. Having a computer science degree nowadays is like having a life vest, and it also is in demand in other countries/continents. I would 100% recommend you to avoid architecture and go with Computer Science if you want a more balanced, and comfortable life where you have more say on your projects, hours and pay.
Good luck!

Bouchra, there are a lot of people that are wondering the same thing that you are. Here's what I'd recommend: don't make this an either/or question. I believe that the folks that will be successful in the future are going to be the ones that treat AI like what it is, a potentially great tool. Be the architect that uses that AI better than anyone. And that not just *uses* AI, that *leverages* AI. Levers are great things, they allow us to lift things that would otherwise be impossible. Think Frank Lloyd Wright....what could he have accomplished if he had tools like AI to help implement his visions. Go be *that* architect, the one that has a highly developed vision and an eye for function and art, that also knows how to get the most out of all of the tools at their disposal. Just think about that architect would be capable of.
Good luck!

Bouchra,

Great question! Let me frank and straight to the point with these few questions below to help guide you.
1. What do you, as an individual, like to do? Can you make a career doing that?
2. What makes you excited to get up everyday and be busy doing that thing? Can you make a career doing that?
3. Never limit yourself in anything you do. There's no shame in getting an Architectural degree and Computer Science degree. As someone who has several degrees and certified in many other aspects of my career, the only limits you have are yourself.
If you like Architecture, AI will not replace it, however BIM & 3D technology is most important to master.

Great question and hope this helps.

Thanks,

Although I am not one to say if or when AI will replace the field of architecture, I would advise that a good thing would be to follow up on your thought with reading up more about it. The Quora website has additional advice about this subject and I have provided the link to it below.

I would suggest going into computer science. We all know that technology is a strong field of work in our present time and the future. There are so many things you can do within this field. Some of the things you can do are software developing, Web developing, UX Designer, Mobile App Development, IT Project Manager, Information Security Analyst, Systems Architect, AI Engineer, Computer Hardware Engineer, Video Game Developer. Look at the variety !

I believe you can't go wrong by going for a computer science degree. Best wishes to you with whatever you choose !
