You are able to include pertinent coursework, engage in volunteer tasks, participate in school clubs, and assume leadership positions.
Thank you comment icon +1 to volunteer experience in general but especially if you had a role leading volunteers, a program or a project for example with a church or you spent time feeding the homeless, etc. Can also be helpful to include skills you've gained from "odd jobs" that you may have done for family or friends like pet sitting. Hello Lisa, the goal of a first job resume is to demonstrate your value as an employee and show employers why hiring you would benefit their company. Review the job description: note any specific skills you have or requirements you can fulfill. Include relevant information for the job: How do your strengths align with the employer’s needs? Which are your soft skills (character traits and interpersonal abilities that determine how well you work, collaborate and communicate with others) and technical skills (job-related, technical knowledge)

List the Social Media platforms you are comfortable, or ideally, an expert at. Maybe you can make TikToks or can run someone/ a business' Instagram account.

List programs or software you are good at (Microsoft Word, Excel, Photoshop, Google Calendar, etc.)

Maybe something like QuickBooks interests you, and you could learn a program and add to your list of skills!

Good luck, before you know it, you'll be looking at your growing skill-set and be proud!

Joji’s Answer

Be sure to showcase any pertinent schoolwork or classes you've completed. Also, if you've participated in any volunteering or extra-curricular activities that align with the job you're aiming for, don't hesitate to mention them.

Remember, there's no need to pad your resume with irrelevant information just to make it look fuller. Employers hiring for entry-level positions understand that you might not have a long list of work experiences to share, so don't stress about it! They value your potential and eagerness to learn more than your past job titles.

Hello! I am a professional resume writer and have worked with clients from the WWE, the CIA, and Walt Disney. Here is the basic layout I recommend.

Your Name
Email, Phone #, City, State

1-3 Sentences about your skills. Do not use personal pronouns. Example: "A strong communicator and collaborator that is able to resolve problems quickly."

Skills Section
Add some skills. Preferably in bullet point columns if you are able. Your skills might include "Communication", "Microsoft Word", and "Child Management".

Employment History
Employer, Job Title, Dates To and From
Bullet Points 1-5: Discuss what you did in this role. Avoid personal pronouns. Think about the challenges you faced and how you overcame them!

Education History
School, Diploma, Extracurricular Activities

Optional Sections:
Volunteerism
Organizations
Languages
Training

Keep the resume to only 1 page!

List any certifications you have acquired, any relevant coursework and/or degrees in school, and any volunteer experiences. Further, if you've received any academic (or otherwise) rewards/awards, I would list those too. You could also mention your GPA and/or ACT/SAT scores. However, above all else, if you're able to write a cover letter, I would. This way, you can discuss more in-depth why your character and previous experiences make you a good candidate for whatever position you're seeking.

Kim’s Answer

Hello,
Good for you to want to start getting your resume started. There are lots of templates on the internet that can help you and guide you on how to do a good resume. Make sure you are painting a picture of yourself since your resume can be the difference in who gets the job. Just because you only have babysitting, did you take a babysitting training course? Do you have first aid? Do you have any community service? You can even show things that you do for a church that you serve at. Bring out the best in you. Best of luck

Gayatri’s Answer

Start with your strengths: I would assume responsible, patient, entrepreneurial, persistent are words I would use to describe a babysitter. Would ensure your strengths and traits stand out, as it relates to your current role.

Shane’s Answer

I’d focus on what you have going for you versus what you’re missing.

Babysitting has some great leadership, responsibility, and entrepreneurship themes that can build a nice resume.

Remember to tailor you resume to the job you are applying for. Use it as an opportunity to stand out as well.
