Mustafa’s Answer

To truly push your limits, consider yourself as your primary rival. By becoming your own most formidable adversary, your standards for success naturally escalate. Picture it like this: you set a goal to scale Mount Everest. To achieve this, your mind instinctively prompts you to begin with smaller mountains, honing your skills until you're a proficient climber. At this point, you'll feel prepared to conquer Everest. Remarkably, upon reaching Everest's peak, you won't stop there. You'll set your sights on the moon next, as you're your own toughest competition. This approach not only makes you excel in your endeavors but also helps you identify your most challenging tasks, what brings you the most joy, and how to accomplish these goals. The brain, second only to the universe, is the most extraordinary entity in existence.

Molly’s Answer

Hello Maria!

This is a great question! Simply answered, I would recommend to step your foot into multiple areas. If you find that what you are currently in or studying does not satisfy and appeal to what you want to do in the future, then you can easily shift away from that one area and focus in another. In college, I knew that I wanted to focus my studies in general business. However, that is all I knew. After focusing my studies in multiple areas of business, I found my way into Human Resources where I currently am working in today. I received my MBA focusing specifically in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, and currently have a position as an Human Resources Administrator for a Sam's Club distribution and fulfillment center. You will never know what you like until you dip your foot in the water and tread through several areas!
Dimply put, you do not have to settle on the first major that you decide. You never know what you'll find until you step your foot out there and test the waters!

If you find that what you are currently enrolled in does not satisfy you or interest you as much you thought it would, then you can simply change majors. Make sure you plan it out accordingly with a counselor. In which, you should map out a future course guidelines, as well as the necessary professors you will need to learn from. It is simply okay though to leave one major for another! Never feel bad about the process, and always make sure that what you do, you love and enjoy it!
I hope this helped, and good luck in your endeavors!

Thank You
Molly H.

Paul’s Answer

Ask yourself this question each day: "what did I do to scare myself today?"
If the answer is "nothing" then you are not pushing your boundaries.

This is about accomplishing tasks and working outside your comfort zone.
Not about extreme sports :-)

Jacob’s Answer

I think the fact that you're asking how to challenge yourself is proof you know how to challenge yourself. Always be looking for opportunities that take you out of your comfort zone, if you're finding it hard to find a challenge currently, ask for it from professors or managers. My writing professors always pushed me and my skills constantly.

Anna’s Answer

Think about things that you are scared of or put off doing.

Making a CV, applying for a job, public speaking, asking for advice.

Do something that challenges you in a small amount to start, to gradually push you outside of your comfort zone and progress.

Gary’s Answer

Hello there,

That's a fantastic question! In a nutshell, it's all about identifying what we truly desire and then taking steps, no matter how small, to move closer to that dream. Embracing the joy of learning can be a great way to stimulate your mind and challenge yourself.

Why not try an online course, a webinar, or even an audiobook? Reading, volunteering, seeking guidance from a mentor, or even becoming a mentor yourself are all wonderful ways to grow and connect with others. Every chance to learn and interact with people can be a stepping stone towards your goal.

Best of luck on your journey!

James Constantine’s Answer

Dear Maria,

How might I push my personal boundaries?

Personal and professional growth often comes from challenging oneself. Here are some practical strategies to help you do just that:

Establish Goals: Craft SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals. These can propel you from your comfort zone and inspire you to strive harder.

Acquire New Skills: Pursue a new hobby or skill that piques your interest. This could range from learning a new language, delving into coding, or mastering a musical instrument.

Venture Beyond Your Comfort Zone: Embrace experiences that slightly intimidate you. This could involve public speaking, solo travel, or assuming a leadership role in a project.

Solicit Feedback: Request feedback from colleagues, mentors, or managers to pinpoint areas for improvement and growth.

Question Your Beliefs: Engage in conversations with individuals who hold differing viewpoints to challenge your own beliefs and perspectives.

Volunteer: Offering your time and skills to a cause you're passionate about can present new challenges and a sense of accomplishment.

Physical Challenges: Participate in physical activities that test your limits, such as running a marathon, tackling a challenging hike, or trying a new sport.

Remember, challenging oneself is a personal journey. What is challenging for one may not be for another. The key is to continually seek opportunities for growth and development.

What are some other business-related career paths?

If you're drawn to a career in business but wish to explore similar alternatives, consider these career paths:

Marketing: Marketing professionals promote products or services through various channels to effectively reach target audiences.

Finance: Finance professionals handle financial transactions, analyze data, and offer strategic financial advice to organizations.

Human Resources: HR professionals focus on recruiting, training, and managing an organization's employees to ensure a productive workforce.

Entrepreneurship: As an entrepreneur, you have the opportunity to establish and manage your own business.

Consulting: Consultants offer expert advice to businesses on various aspects such as strategy, operations, technology, or management.

Each of these paths provides unique opportunities for growth and development in the business world, catering to different interests and skill sets.

Can I attend college? How do I determine what I want to do or what would be beneficial for me?

The decision to attend college is personal and depends on factors such as your academic goals, financial circumstances, career aspirations, and personal interests. Here are some steps to help you decide if college is the right choice for you:

Self-Assessment: Reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, interests, and values to identify potential career paths that align with your skills and passions.

Career Exploration: Gain insights into various industries through informational interviews, job shadowing, internships, or online research.

Education Planning: Understand the educational requirements for your desired career path and determine if college is necessary to achieve your goals.

Financial Planning: Assess the cost of a college education, including tuition, living expenses, and potential student loans, to ensure it aligns with your financial resources.

Seek Advice: Seek advice from career counselors, mentors, teachers, or family members on educational and career decisions.

Ultimately, the decision to attend college should be based on thorough self-assessment and research into potential career paths that will contribute to your personal and professional growth.

Top 3 Authoritative Sources Used:

Harvard Business Review: A trusted source for business-related insights and trends across various industries.

Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS): Provides valuable data on job outlooks, salary information, and educational requirements for different careers.
