Are internships necessary to get a job?

I am a nursing student trying to decide if I should get an internship.

I don't think internships are necessary to get a job, but I do think they can help prepare you or give you additional understanding of a job's roles & responsibilities before fully committing to that career path. If you have the time, I would recommend participating in an internship! I participated in 3 internship programs and believe they helped me figure out what I wanted to do after college!

Employers are looking for people who have initiative, drive, constant and internships are a good way to show this on your resume and your interview. While it is not necessary it is helpful to show you have learned skills that expanding into the career you are looking for.

It is a good way to try a new role/industry to determine if you like the role and industry.

Helps build relationships which will serve every part of your career. Build relationships with people in your industry or a specific line of business.

It is important to note that this will no hinder your career if you are unable to participate in an internship. If you have other responsibilities like caring for a loved one, make sure to share that in your interview and speak to what you have learned from those experiences.

Explore other courses or certifications that can help you get to the career or goal you want to achieve.

Internships are definitely not required to land a job in your field of choice, but should you choose to do one, having it on your resume along with the actual knowledge and experience will put you ahead of Peers who have not.
