Hello Lia,

There are several good internships in the San Antonio Tx area that you can add to your curriculum; International Relations is a great field of study, in addition to the fundamentals that you will get in your Freshman and Sophomore years in college an internship with a firm where you will need to communicate well and build relationships will be ideal. Financial Services firms are a good place to start (or do a Google search for companies that offer internships for students in San Antonio, TX), if you are interested in international relations, there may be an opportunity to intern abroad during one of your years in college; I suggest making a list of at least 15-companies that offer internships, add to that list the qualifications and or required skills and then apply to as many of the one's that you believe will be a good fit for you. In addition to your individual list, check out any available resources available to you at school and in your community. Volunteerism is also an excellent addition to your resume, employers will be interested to see how you contribute to a strong community, it is also good for socialization and providing a sense of purpose and direction; you people still in school obtain social skills and develop awareness as volunteers. It can boost your college applications, and job resumes.

Getting into you dream college will require hard work, focus, planning and determination on your part; doing well in school as well as meeting and exceeding all of the requirements for that school are also important. Keep in mind that there are so many great schools out there and that the college that chooses you will be so fortunate to have you as a student.

Good luck!

Pamela

I’ve found that there are numerous organizations that offer internships; especially in major cities. I’d talk with your teachers to see if they are aware of any or know of any associations that offer internships.

You can also do a search online. You may be surprised by the number of internships that you find available. Hope you find what you are looking for!

Hello, Lia !

I would be happy to provide you with advice and information that can get you ready for your interest in International Relations.

In San Antonio, there is a school for children ages 2 to 12 called The International School of San Antonio. I am not sure of your age, but this school immerses you into foreign language and learning about various cultures. They also have a magnet school in San Antonio called The International School of the Americas and that one is for students from 9th to 12th grade. So it seems as though you are very fortunate to have access to these private schools. This school is located at 1400 Jackson-Keller in San Antonio and can be reached at (210) 356 - 0900 for more information. They offer internships as well as service learning experiences.

You can also contact government agencies, non-governmental organizations and also non-profits and corporations to inquire about and explore their internship programs.

In order to get into your dream college, you can start now by focusing on getting high grades in the subjects you are taking and join a club at your school related to international relations. Stay with that club till your graduate high school. Your academic record, your GPA and SAT scores will mean a lot when thinking about getting accepted into your dream college. The college will also be looking at your extracurricular activities, your character and application essay, and letters of recommendation, so being prepared like this will be in your favor. The final way they will evaluate you for acceptance into the college will be the interview. I am sure that you will do well !

I hope that this has helped you a little and wish you all the best in school and all of your exciting plans !
