Hello, Hope !

It is so wonderful that you are aware of just the type of work you want to do and I'd be happy to give some suggestions for non-sit down jobs that you might consider.

The first one that comes to mind is Chef. You could work in a restaurant, catering hall or be a personal or private chef. You will not be sitting down much for this job. How about the entertainment industry as a performer ? It is an active job to be a dancer or actor, but you will get some sit-down time during breaks. You may also consider being a photographer or in the field journalist - with some time using a computer to finalize your work. There is also the possibility of working as a flight attendant or sanitation staff in the field collecting refuse. The Military and police or detective work will have you out and about and very active.

One field of work where you can be guaranteed to not sit behind a desk all day is the several jobs within the field of medical health care. Also in the field of dentistry as a dentist or dental assistant or hygienist. Another perfect job that will keep you on your feet is teaching. If it is being away from a desk that you want, you may consider plumbing, electrician work, landscaping, roofing or being a commercial and residential painter. You may want to consider working in retail, too. In addition, being a tour guide, hairdresser/stylist, or mail carrier.

Many jobs today do require some knowledge and use of the internet, e-mail and various programs, but the jobs I mentioned should not require you to be sitting still and you'd be mostly active for most of your work day. You have a lot to choose from and I wish you all the best in finding a job that you really love !

On the other hand, if you're interested in making a difference in your community, consider a career in law enforcement or emergency services. Consider exploring the field of Sports Medicine. As an Athletic Trainer, I can assure you that it's a dynamic profession where you're constantly on your feet and engaged in various activities. You're rarely confined to a desk, as most of your time is spent moving around, ensuring the safety of athletes during practice or evaluating and taping in the Training Room.

Moreover, you'll find yourself in the weight room, assisting athletes with their rehabilitation. The job offers a wide range of environments to work in, extending beyond just the sports field. You could find yourself in industrial settings such as factories or airports.

Furthermore, you could play a vital role in a Physical Therapy clinic, guiding patients through their recovery programs. Even in a doctor's office, as an Athletic Trainer, you'll be on the move throughout your shift, assisting with patient care. This profession offers a dynamic and versatile work environment that keeps you active and involved.

Joseph recommends the following next steps:

Look into CAATE accredited ATC programs
Speak with professionals in different settings

Amber’s Answer

It truly depends on what field interests you most, but here are some ideas that come to mind:
1. Physical therapy/athletic trainer/personal trainer: both of these professions require you to constantly move around with patients or clients to demonstrate exercises, grab equipment, and truly allow you to be involved and have fun with others. It also allows you to get some exercise of your own if that is what you enjoy!
2. Teaching! I know teaching seems like you would be behind a desk a lot, but you would be able to interact with other students, play around (depending on the grade), moving about the classroom, and it would keep your mind stimulated as you must be creative at your approach.
3. Real estate or interior design: You would be constantly traveling to different places, using a creative outlet, connecting with clients, and each day would be different allowing you to not get bored easily.

The truth is that any job can be enjoyable if you find what interests you most! Good Luck!

Hello Hope! That's a fantastic question you've asked. The initial thought that pops into my head is the role of a real estate agent. This job involves some desk work on the computer, but it also includes plenty of walking around as you explore properties and conduct tours. Alternatively, you might consider a career in fitness, such as becoming a sports coach or a personal trainer. Another exciting possibility could be launching your own dog walking business! Wishing you all the best on your journey!

Stephanie’s Answer

Hi Hope,

While I was in school I worked at a local Health Club/ Gym at the Front Desk. I was constantly active with checking in members, answering phones, and handling any customer questions/concerns. Also, a plus to being in such an active environment, it helped me branch into new things, such as becoming a Group Class Fitness Instructor.
