BA vs BFA?

I'm looking at the USC SCA website currently and I noticed that there is a bachelor of arts in film production and then there is a bachelor of fine arts in film production. Can anyone explain the difference?

Hi John,

BA and BFA are both bachelors degrees. BFA is more focused on the artsy major of your studies with some 60% of classes in your major. BA is a more general liberal arts degree with about 30% of your classes in your major.

I encourage you to explore different curriculums and find what truly speaks to you. Remember, a wider-ranging degree offers a broader perspective, enriching your understanding of storytelling. Sure, being artsy is great, and yes, there are countless successful artsy filmmakers. But absorbing a variety of topics and ideas can be equally beneficial. I landed a job at Disney when I was just 23, a time when my knowledge was still quite limited. Despite the wonderful journey, I found myself wishing I had delved deeper into non-cinema courses to better comprehend the art of crafting a compelling story and engaging an audience.

Whatever path you feel drawn to, I wish you the best of luck.
