How should I incorporate relaxing into my life?

At least from my experience, most people can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Especially as one gets towards the end of high school, the list of things to do begins to pile up and sometimes I’m not really sure what to do when I actually have time to relax and re-energize. Any tips for how to spend this time and keep myself balanced in not doing too much or too little? #time #relaxation #life-balance

Rachel’s Answer

You have to set a routine for yourself and stick to it for the most part. Once you get into the groove of a routine it will be much easier for you to manage your time and have enough time for everything you need to do (including relaxing). Make yourself to-do lists on a weekly basis, use Google calendar or a planner to keep track of events, deadlines, and due dates. In addition to setting a routine and sticking to it, plan out relaxing activities into your day. Or set aside a time, after everything is done for the day, that you can have "me" time. I have also personally found it essential to not only find time for myself but also make use of that time in a way that is best for me and my holistic wellness. I have found the HeadSpace app to be an essential tool in helping me relax and generally feel more relaxed throughout the day, Guided meditation, even if you have a busy schedule, will make you feel more at ease and relaxed throughout the day as a whole (not just when you have the time to relax and focus on that "me" time).

Rachel recommends the following next steps:

Set a routine.
Use Google Calendar.
Set aside Me Time
Write weekly to-do lists and use a planner.
Find a peaceful and restful activity that will help you feel relaxed.

I find that if i use a calendar or make a list , it holds me accountable. Make time for yoga or relaxing. Right after work i carve out time before dinner and chores for the next day to do yoga or rest and reset.

HI Connor.

I experience this myself and i get too overwhelmed when I have a lot of things that I need to accomplish. One thing that helped me is, when I started listing the things that I need to do and put levels of priority. I put Urgent, Semi-urgent and not urgent so I know what I need to do first. In between those, I make sure that in the list, I include rest or leisure time.

During rest or leisure time, I focus on doing what I like the most. It can be eating my favorite snack, playing computer games, shopping or just sleeping or getting a massage.

Find the right balance. We all deserve a break :)

It sounds as if you are pretty busy. If you don't think you have time to set aside "me time" or do yoga, you could take just a couple minutes, go to a quiet place and close your eyes and just take a few deep breaths. Breathe in slowly until your lungs are completely filled (your stomach will be pushed out as well as your chest) and then let the breath out slowly. Do this 10 or 15 times. Each breath in should take at least 5 seconds, but breath in as deeply as you can then just let it out slowly. If you were frazzled or anxious this will help you slow your mind down so you can relax and focus.

Jad’s Answer

I find my most relaxing times are when I take walks in nature around my neighborhood. Exercise, or at the least taking a walk, is a great way to relieve stress.

Furthermore, making sure that you are getting enough sleep and eating right is very important in being proactive in stress management.

Christy’s Answer

As you develop time-management skills, you will find it easier to incorporate healthy habits, such as relaxation, into your life. Maintaining a good work-life balance is extremely important. Most likely, you'll spend 30+ years in a career and depending on the field you choose, "career burn-out" can occur at different points in one's life. Having a healthy outlet for stress management and self-care is the key. Personally, I enjoy regular fitness classes, to include yoga, at least 3 times per week. A home yoga practice doesn't require much time and there are a wealth of free videos online to guide you through a yoga flow session or even a guided meditation practice. Starting at a young age with healthy habits, such as relaxation and self-care, will greatly benefit you mentally and physically throughout your life.

Sandeep’s Answer

Hello Connor
Best advise I would like to give you is
1. Practising Yoga - It helps you keep your body and mind in sync as a result you wont find body tired easily. Many Yogi's (who practise yoga) hardly sleep for 4 hours a day ! This means their body never gets tired and keeps body and mind always active.
2. Best way to relax is find time to thing which you love to do..It could be anything hobby you like, going to beach, listening music, playing or partying.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Sandeep
