Hi Lyla,

It sounds like you are interested in performing and expressing yourself. It also sounds like you enjoy social interaction. Perhaps this could be extended out into the helping professions such as music therapy, teaching music or expressive arts therapy. I would suggest volunteering at a hospital in their music therapy program or in a program where you can help children or older adults. There are so many career paths to explore that combine your love of music with your interest in social interaction, while providing you with a stable income. Maybe explore career paths in counseling or teaching, combined with your love of music and performing. Did you know that acting can be important in fields like teaching, counseling or even law? Your career path can have some elements of your interests like performing and social interaction. Maybe speak with your guidance counselor or favorite teacher at your school regarding your interests. I hope this helps.

Hello, Lyla !

Wow, you're awesome and very talented ! You are already practicing creativity which is a real bonus. I would like to share some advice with you for you to continue on the path you have already established.

I am going to suggest that you continue with acting because you are already sharpening your dance and singing skills and acting is very social as you probably already know. You have to follow your heart, though, and if you feel like venturing into the fine arts too, that would be an addition that you may enjoy.

Something that I could suggest that may be something different from what you may have been doing is to try your hand at directing. Ask the theatre teacher if you can direct a one act play. If you've been in some plays already, you will have the gist of it or you can read up about how to direct a play. Keep it small, small cast, simple set. It sounds like you fill your time with a lot of creative endeavors and that you're asking for something additional, so the first thing that came to mind was directing a play. Read up about directing from these websites :
https://www.stagemilk.com/how-to-direct/ AND https://www.pioneerdrama.com/Newsletter/Articles/Help_First-time_Director.asp

Think about video. You can create a channel on You Tube and it doesn't have to be an acting show, it could be anything you want. Think about your other interests and create a theme, do an interview show, etc. You can choose whatever you want it to be. And think about a summer camp experience at which you can use your creativity. Here is a link for more information about camps in your state : https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/best-summer-camps-or-workshops-for-teens-in-minnesota/

There may be opportunities for creative volunteer work outside of school, too. Check with venues that you'd like to spend some time at. In addition, remember to keep up with your grades and your position in the National Honor Society because that is important too. Visit your local Chamber of Commerce or Town Hall to see if any new creative companies have opened up and contact them about being involved.

I hope that this is helpful and I wish you all the best going forward !

Hello,
You're quite talented.
I believe there are many paths to go down that require huge amounts of creativity and there are many tools to help out also.

Writing:Does your School Council have a magazine? If they don't,it would be a cool idea to help them start a small online or offline journal with the collaboration of a few friends.
Someone could build the website or work on the designs, you could work on the story with a friend and to fund its publishing you can work with your school,a local printing press or a writer in your community.

Theatre:You mentioned above that you're part of your school Theatre Team.
The theatre is a great place to start out also.Collaborate with your teacher in bringing up new ideas for plays and also write and direct a few for your school.

Most importantly, build your skills, learn new skills and don't be afraid to try out new things.

Alexandra M. S.’s Answer

Hi Lyla! We often think of creativity in direct ways, like making art or doing crafts, but creativity can show up in any field of work! Another way to think of creativity is innovation. Do you like to find solutions to problems, or imagine new or better ways to do things? These kinds of thoughts are examples of innovative thinking, and can sometimes scratch that "creative itch".

There are some careers that value creativity and innovation more than others. When you're thinking of career choices, I recommend spending time considering questions like: Is this job more about completing tasks or thinking creatively? Do the work in this field have a lot of structure, such as strict regulations, legislation, or processes to follow? Are there both corporate employers and small business employers nearby that I could choose between?
