That can be a challenging profession. There was a time when mechanics just focused on the mechanical parts of a car, but now with all the electronics and the coming of electric cars, the career can be exciting. To become an auto mechanic, it usually takes between 2 to 4 years, based on the route you decide to follow. You can either start a vocational program while you're still in high school, or you can opt to earn an associate degree or certificate from a community college or technical school.
