Is there room for humor when working as an actuary?

As an 8th grader humor is a very prominent thing in my personal and daily life. I love to brighten the mood with a joke.

In the work place showing some of your own personality is very important, no one wants to work with robots all day. If everyone was the same work would would be a very boring place so there is always a place for humour in workplace once its is released at appropriate times. Even the most serious jobs and situations there needs to be times when people can take there mind of the situation for a couple of minutes and laughter is an important part of this. If you are in a role you can't be yourself I would say you are in the wrong role.

I totally agree with the response from Austin. In any career it is important to be true to your own personality. The stereotyping of people in many careers is prevalent and some get careers may carry the stereotype of being humorless. And the actuary field may be one of those. Mostly because very few people even know what the career is and they equate it with what they think is a dry subject, mathematics. I had a 40 year career as an actuary and humor and laughter were definitely part of my workplace and friendships with actuarial colleagues.
