What are the essentials for moving into a dorm for the first time?
I am a high school senior about to graduate and move away from my home. My parents are very paranoid about me moving away and what I might need. Especially since they never had this experience. I also have never lived away from my family in any capacity so this is intimidating for me. I understand there are differences in what is allowed in certain dorms but I would appreciate general advice or tips on what to look out for or avoid!

I'm going to transfer to a college on the West Coast next fall. I currently live on the East Coast. Aside from finances and homesickness what are some other things to keep in mind as I relocate there for school? I would be living in the dorm and there is local public transportation at the school.
