When did you get your first Big Break? How did you get it? How did it go?

Not sure when I got my first big break, but can tell you for sure that I made A LOT of mistakes in my career. What I love about public accounting is the coaching and development that I receive to help me learn from my mistakes. Hard work, an open mind, being receptive to feedback and willingness to give back through coaching and developing new team members are key ingredients to success in public accounting.

What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?

The best piece of career advice that I received was that I would experience a lot of highs and lows throughout my career, and the key to success is to refrain from making major decisions during the highs and lows. In most instances, whatever you are dealing with likely isn't as good or bad as it seems in the heat of the battle, and making decisions at that time will be biased to whatever you are feeling. I don't always succeed with following this advice, but find that I'm much happier with decisions reached when I do.
