Ratika’s Answer

To become a journalist, first you need to have a keen interest in News. Next, get a degree. If still preparing- read a lot, read out loud and write daily. Next once you get a degree you go for a job hunt. Even if the start is small it's still a start. Continue working towards it, you will get there.

Honey- What a wonderful profession to choose!
So many ways to accomplish this.
Read - as much as you can
Write - as much as you can
Observe and question - as much as you can.
Develop a speciality and become a reliable, accurate expert - it sounds like sports might be yours.
Join a school newspaper, or start one
Join a writing club, or start one.
Follow and read and network with journalists you admire
Find someone else to work with. You can both learn and develop together.
Always tell the truth and be as accurate as possible.
You can do this formally, in school, or on your own.
Both require "getting out there" and being seen and heard.
Volunteer when opportunities come up - be there.
Follow your passion.

Well, if you live in the US (I don't know what the process is like in other countries but it may be similar) you would have to get a bachelor's degree in Journalism or another related field like English, Communications, Political Science, Multimedia Production, etc. You could even consider minoring in what you think you might want to write about after graduation like politics, science, economics, etc.
While you are in high school you can gain experienc by writing for your school newspaper and yearbook. If your school does not offer those classes, you could send emails to local newspapers formally asking if you can meet with a journalist and discuss writing a few articles for them and getting feedback, or even simply getting a tour of the newsroom to see what it is like. If you are interested in broadcast journalism, you could join your high school's Video Production class or something similar if your school offers that (although learning print journalsim would still be helpful). You could also reach out to local broadast stations asking if you can get a tour of their station and get some tips and tricks for getting your foot in the door. Other than that, on your own time you can do research on how to write in journalistic style, read news stories from various sources every day, stay updated on current events, and do reserach into colleges that have good programs and a good student newspaper you could work for. Some colleges also have student-run news broadasts you could take part in. Good luck!

Beyond all the formal education advice given already, I'd say be inquisitive...be a sponge.
Be aware of what is going on around you and be dialed into your community and environment.
In a college or university setting, there are many opportunities to write and contribute, but I have had many interns and friends/writers who have started their own blog and written there... that space gave the a chance to find their passion and write about topics they love or are inspired by, even if family and friends were the only ones reading it!
