Can I talk to my colleges financial aid office to get more help with scholarships even if the FAFSA didn't give me anything?

I live overseas but I'm an American citizen going to an American high school, and I can't afford college without help. Will the financial aid office give me help if I ask? Or do I have to rely on third party scholarships to pay?

Hi Natalie,

I don't think it would hurt to set up an appointment with the financial aid office and ask. Many schools run their own scholarships and offer other financial aid outside of FAFSA. It could also be helpful to talk to alumni (either directly or via a forum like a subreddit dedicated to the college) to see if they know of any other opportunities or have further suggestions.

If those options don't work, you may need to apply to third party scholarships, find a flexible part time job, or look into taking out loans.

Hi Natalie,

You currently live in Germany. Is going to school in Germany, tuition-free, an option? You could do your undergrad in Germany and grad school in the US if you prefer a US degree.

I hope this helps! All the best to you!
