Hi Anakeesta,
I love your question because many creatives just want to create and not get involved in the hustle and bustle of the music business side nor the marketing part of it. To answer your question, it will depend on the following:
What are your goals? If you only want to create (lyrics, melody, composition) and make money without performing or showing up, then you'll either have to collaborate with artists who will take care of the performance and social media part. A successful collaborating team includes team players where each will work on their strengths to create a whole result.
Another way is to reach out to music agencies who would hire you remotely or in person for your creative work. (Trailer composer for Movie Trailers or Video Games composer for video games instruments for example).
Are you an extrovert or extra-introvert who can show up to music events and conferences of your interest in person or online for at least a year to introduce yourself to others so they can know you exist and have services and products you can provide, instead of social media?
Are you an introvert who would rather work remotely and can reach out to potential clients from your laptop or sell your vocal chops (as applicable )on music services such as SoundBetter?
Do you have a manger or a team who would take care of the business and marketing side (exposure) on your behalf so that way you focus more on creating?
The more you provide details to your question, the better the answers will guide you, here are just a few to think about :
- What are your music goals?
- What is your preferred genre?
- What are you trying to be seen as? ( A singer? A Composer? A film composer? An instrumentalist? An Artist? A songwriter? etc.)
- Do you like to work with others?
- Do you work alone without a team?
- Do you research the latest trends?
- Are you creating music as a hobby or as a career?
- Without social media, what are the lists of other ways to market yourself?
Good Luck!

Short answer is that social media is a tool, but it doesn't replace talent and hustle. If you want to be in the music business...or even just perform and gig locally/regionally...you have to hustle, practice, and have talent. Social media and publishing your music on various platforms will aid to enhance your presence and build a fan base. We would give out for free koozies with our band name and social media info at every venue we played because everyone likes a free koozie and sometimes they take them home and will remember a good time or a song, and then come back to see you. So, be creative on how to engage the audience and building a fan base.
At the end of the day, there is no greater way to earn a rep and an audience than gigging....and gigging a lot.

You can do it, even if it's a bit tougher. Social media lets musicians share their talents with more people and in a better way. This means reaching more fans than through regular methods.
