what kind of field I should join for my career ?

I'm studying with a science background in high school. But now I feel like I'm much more interested in business and finance. Also I'm quite interested in activism but my communication skills are not that good. But I'm working on it.

The good news is That you have plenty of time to explore different types of interest and things that you may want to do in the future. Don’t feel like you have to have everything figured out now or decide on a topic or path for the rest of your life. It is possible to learn something —- learn that you don’t like it, or learn that you like something else more and pursue that. One thing that I think would have been beneficial to my development in high school and before college was to continue to explore new skills, even if I didn’t think I would be initially interested in them if you have the time outside of academics think about new things that could enhance your life or help you learn a new skill.

Thank you for your question. I am glad to know you have a wide range of interest. Firstly, you need to find out what careers you have interest.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Given you have interest in business and finance, would like to become a accountant, finance manager, financial analyst, banker, marketing, human resources, etc. You can find out more business and finance careers online.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counselor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

JAYANT’s Answer

Your mix of interests in science and business/finance is fantastic! This combination can lead to many exciting and promising career opportunities. You don't have to pick one over the other; in fact, blending both can really make you shine. Here are some fields you might want to explore:

Finance with a Quantitative/Scientific Edge
If you enjoy working with data, numbers, and logical thinking:
- Quantitative Finance (Quant): Use math, statistics, and programming to understand financial markets.
- Financial Engineering: Create complex financial tools using math and computer science.
- Actuarial Science: Use probability and statistics to evaluate financial risks like insurance and pensions.

Data Science or Business Analytics
If you are tech-savvy or interested in coding:
- Combine data with business insights.
- Work in areas like finance, marketing, operations, or investment analytics.

Your unique skill set can truly set you apart and open doors to rewarding careers!

Hi there. Hope you're doing well.

Exploring new interests is fantastic! Moving from science to business and finance can lead to exciting opportunities. Here are some steps to help you make this change:

Take Courses: Start with beginner courses in business and finance. Websites like Coursera, Khan Academy, and edX offer free or low-cost options to build your knowledge.

Join Clubs: Check if your school has business or finance clubs. Joining these can give you experience and help you meet new people.

Improve Communication: Practice your communication skills. Join debates, public speaking clubs like Toastmasters, or write a blog to share your ideas.

Get Involved: Find local or online activism groups that match your interests. Volunteering helps you gain experience and boost your communication skills.

Find a Mentor: Look for mentors who can help you with this transition. Teachers, professionals, or family members can offer great advice and support.

It's okay to explore new passions. Keep practicing your communication skills, and they will get better over time. Good luck!

Jason’s Answer

Hey Maliha,

IT's great you are figuring out what you are interested in. I would say to keep at it and follow the interest in business and finance. Learning to be a great communicator takes time and practice which it appears you are working on already so keep it up. Try to push yourself as much as you can to get better. For me I started in class trying to ask 1 question per class so that I got used to the common fear of speaking up in front of people. next I moved into actually presenting and putting myself in scholarship contests where I had to deliver speeches. over time I got used to it. as well as your courses in business will likely have several presentations and even courses on public and business communications.
Thank you comment icon thank you so much. your advice might turn so much helpful l for my communication improving journey. Maliha
