As an undergrad student interested in pursuing something in the criminal justice field, what internships would I benefit most from?

I am currently a student at Solano Community College graduating with my AA in criminal justice in August. I am transferring to Sacramento State University in the fall, majoring in criminal justice as well and possibly psychology or sociology. I am most interested in job related fields such as criminal law, forensics, criminal investigation, etc. I have volunteered and shadowed in courthouses before while in high school, but I would love to further explore my passion for the justice system while I continue my academic journey.

Thank you comment icon Yes, internships are more beneficial. Keshur Barai

Great question! You're heading in the right direction. Shadowing is always beneficial because it helps you see if something is a good or bad fit for you. If you've already shadowed at a courthouse, try reaching out to a local law firm or a counseling office in your area. Consider exploring teaching as well! Make sure to keep track of all your activities on your computer or phone so you can easily update your resume later.

You have a solid, strong foundation already. Congratulations on your graduation.
Your passion for criminal justice and psychology is outstanding.
There are many types of internships in this field for criminal justice students.
Here are some:
District attorney's office, Crime lab and forensic department office, Police department, Federal internships, FBI, DEA, Victim advocacy or social service internships.

Apply early for summer and fall programs, as they open 2-3 months earlier. Update your resume with shadowing or volunteer work you've done, don’t forget to highlight your interest in both criminal justice and psychology.
Websites to find these opportunities,
Sacramento State Career Center, PD, FBI, local Courthouse, DA office
USAJobs,gov , CalCareers,ca,gov
