How can I best prepare to compete four years from now when AI is moving so fast today?

As a high school senior entering college in the Fall of 2025 with a degree in Business Management, I am concerned that the speed of change AI will bring to certain business careers could make some degrees obsolete by the time I graduate. It does appear that data analytics courses could be one path. #Spring25

Patrick’s Answer

It’s wise to be thinking about the future job market and the impact AI will have – it shows real foresight! While it’s true AI will automate some business tasks, it will also create new opportunities. A business management degree will still be relevant, especially if you focus on areas AI can’t replace, like:
* Critical thinking and problem-solving: These skills are essential for analyzing complex business situations and making strategic decisions, areas where AI can assist but not replace human judgment.
* Creativity and innovation: As AI takes over routine tasks, businesses will need people who can think outside the box, develop new products and services, and find creative solutions to challenges.
* Leadership and emotional intelligence: Building and managing teams, inspiring others, and understanding human emotions are crucial for effective leadership, and these are areas where AI falls short.
You’re right that data analytics is a smart choice, as AI relies heavily on data. Consider focusing your electives on data analysis, programming, and AI-related courses. Developing a strong understanding of how AI works will be a huge advantage in any business career.
Remember, the key is adaptability. Embrace lifelong learning and stay updated on the latest technological advancements. By combining your business acumen with a solid understanding of technology, you’ll be well-positioned for success in the future job market.
