To be an entrepreneur, you don't necessarily need to have a specific degree. You're the boss, and you can start a business right now (in high school) if you wanted to. However, getting a bachelor's degree in business would definitely help you if you plan to own a business. You would need to learn some of the fundamentals of marketing, accounting, finance, business law, and so on.

Depending on the business you may not need a degree but a strong work ethic and a passion for what you do. The benefits of attaining a degree in Business Management is to help create your business plan. Coursework will teach you the best type of business to start, some of the pitfalls to avoid, how to promote and market your business, and tactics to evolve your business when needed. It sounds like your family may be a good reference to get their experience. Even with earning a degree work ethic can not be taught.

Sounds like a cool industry to be in! These answers are already on it. It's not a must to have a degree to have your own business. Obviously the more you how to do then the more money you will save by not having to hire someone that does. But you don't have to do it all. Almost all owners hire help for time or quality purposes. I think knowing the line of work you are in is the more valuable than any. You can always hire someone to balance the accounts.

Gary’s Answer

A four-year bachelor's degree would be a good idea. Technically there are no requirements for owning a business, but practically there are. To own the business, where are you going to get the money? Will you need investors? If so, are they going to be more likely to invest money with someone who has a degree from a four-year school? You bet. Will you need a credit line with a bank? Same deal. In time your work experience will become more important than your educational experience, but for practical reasons it definitely makes sense to get a bachelor's degree if you can.

Honestly, you do not need a college degree. I would recommend a 4 year degree in business with a minor in finance. Where this is not required I really believe it will put a perspective on what it will take to obtain your Dreams! This in my opinion would also allow you to understand not only how to obtain but how to keep your dream. It is one thing to own your own business, it is another to then run a successful business. I hope that this helps!
