Besides cyber security, how exactly can I incorporate a peace and security concentration into my career? ?

With my major, I plan to concentrate on peace, security, and human rights but i'm unsure how to utilize that in my career if I have no interest in cyber security and plan to go to law school. Any ideas?

DENNIS’s Answer

Ava: As a lawyer I can tell you that everything we do is about human rights, peace and security. At this point, I'd suggest you finish up the school you are in, get good grades and keep an open mind about the future. Cyber security is the wave of the future. Your acceptance or rejection of that wave is up to you.
Once you are in law school your path will become clearer!
Good luck

Hello Ava! Your inquiry has gone through my weekly mail. You are like a perfect mentor, but unfortunately my answer will not be what you are be expected because my background is in Finance. I will suggest from my international perspective and my advice will be to start by exploring your interests — what classes, hobbies, or activities excite you most? In the field that you would like to study the only nonprofit organization who is responsible for security and peace is OSCE. Try applying for volunteering or internships in that organization. From my knowledge this organization OSCE is the one for security and peace & human rights. A law major opens many paths—solicitor, barrister, in-house counsel, public interest, or academia—and the best choice depends on your preferred work style, training timeline, and willingness to pursue practical experience now (internships, clinics, volunteering). Please stay update with my peer's advice. Blessing

Sumitra’s Answer

Dear Ava,
You can absolutely build a career in peace and security without touching cybersecurity.
With your interest in human rights and your plan to go to law school, you’re already aligned with fields like international law, humanitarian policy, conflict resolution, gender-based violence protection, global security research, and peacebuilding organizations (UN, UNICEF, Red Cross, Amnesty, etc.). Many roles focus on advocacy, legal frameworks, diplomacy, and community protection and not just technology. Your path will get clearer in law school, but your concentration is valuable and needed in careers that protect people, shape policy, and support vulnerable communities.
Hope this helps! ☺️
