As of today Software engineering consider as the high paying job in technology. This can be in any pillar of the organization, Security, Resiliency etc.
and major companies pay you well ( FAANG companies ). But please note when you are exceptional in any roles, by default you will falls into highest paying category regardless of Technology. You should have the passion of highest level of the individual contributor in engineering, focusing on solving complex technical challenges and influencing technical direction across the organization. You should often involve in creating and driving new technologies and have a significant impact beyond a single team or project. When ever you start your career please start focusing on it

I would caution on being too fixated on pay, technology professions are generally on the high pay scale to start with. Pay can very wildly from city to city, and company to company. Often the companies that offer the highest pay also are the hardest to get, demand the highest performance, the most time commitments (think of 16 to 20 hour days and sleeping at the office), lead to burn out quickly, and are the quickest to layoff. Some people thrive in those environments, but really look at the whole picture and make sure that the work is something you can do, enjoy doing, and it's a company you can work for.

Others here have noted the high-paying fields of AI, data science and data engineering. However be warned that all entry level jobs are calibrated to be more or less the same salary.
One only attains a high salary after putting in years of experience, mastering his/her craft and building a reputation that allows you to build connections and seek promotions.
Being stagnant, whether that means staying at one company for 15 years or in the same job title for 5+ years, is the slow road to success. I'm only just learning this now after 15 years in IT. There is a separate skillset you need to hone on the side, which is self-promotion. Being able to share and present your work to peers and leaders, and random connections you meet on the street. Networking is the fast road to success.
